"Once a month, the Knight Center became my new home and a safe place to test my leadership potential.

Return on investment

Olin’s Executive MBA program gave Beuc “more tools to succeed on the job. I enjoy finance and numbers, so I soaked up the quantitative material. And I really liked my marketing courses. But I also learned a lot about my personality and what makes me tick. The program helped me fine-tune my strengths and stop sweating over my weaknesses. I honestly think it taught me how to be a better human being.”

Impact on his leadership performance

Beuc says his team noticed changes after his first week in the program. “I became more collaborative, communicative, and trusting. I learned how to build consensus and to make my leadership contagious. Now, I read all my audiences more accurately, and I interact more effectively with individuals at all levels of Emerson.”

Initial concerns about enrolling in the program

“I didn’t necessarily like studying as much in school, since I had always learned better on the job and from peers. I also thought the program would be too much work with a 2-and a 5-year-old at home and a wife who worked. Once I was in it, though, I embraced the experience. And I found it energizing. Once a month, the Knight Center became my new home and a safe place to test my leadership potential.

“Our study group members were always there for each other, always ready to provide support, encouragement and positive reinforcement. We were in it together; everyone had individual strengths and perspectives that we could all learn from and continuously improve upon.”
