Personal Interests:
Mark is married to Lisa Braun, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Associate General Counsel at Washington University. They have four children, Will (22), Michael (20), Laura (17), and Caroline (11). <br>Mark also is active in community and civic organizations and served as President of the Board of Police Commissioners for the city of St. Louis. He currently serves as a board member of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact and as Trustee of the Firemen’s Retirement System of St. Louis.

Mark W. Smith is the Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean for Career Services at Washington University in St. Louis. Mark is a native St. Louisian and a first generation college student. Previously, Mark served as Associate Dean of Student Affairs at Washington University School of Law. Before joining the law school, Mark practiced law in the St. Louis office of Bryan Cave. Mark has taught courses at the School of Law and the School of Engineering and Applied Science. He currently teaches a Freshman Focus seminar and a course in the John M. Olin School of Business Executive MBA program. He also does academic and pre-law advising. \In 2004 Mark ran as a Democratic candidate for Congress in the Third Congressional District of Missouri. Despite raising a quarter of a million dollars, receiving the endorsements of political and governmental leaders, as well as the endorsement of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, he lost miserably. He currently is a regular guest on a monthly radio show on the local NPR affiliate that discusses legal topics in the news.
