Julia Deems, PhD, is a Teaching Professor at Olin Business School, Washington University in St Louis. In this role, she brings expertise in both communication strategies and management practices to improve decision-making and drive change. She was previously at Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business and at Carnegie Mellon’s Heinz College of Public Policy. She holds a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University (Rhetoric), an MA from The Ohio State University (English), and a BA from The Ohio State University (English and Political Science). Having studied communication and persuasion across a range of contexts for more than three decades, she has taught at the undergraduate, Masters, PhD and executive education levels. Areas of interest include persuasion and group decision making, organizational change, effective team practices, cross-cultural communication, and online learning.
