Social media provides a unique platform for firms and consumers to interact on a massive scale. However, the high-dimensionality of the data—combined with the complexity and diversity of human language—makes it a nontrivial task to extract information.
To help industry overcome this challenge, we hosted a two-day training, introducing best practices for successfully mining social media data. We showed practitioners how they could develop their analyses in different types of businesses using techniques such as end-to-end social media text mining, domain-specific dictionary/corpus development, and various applications of supervised and unsupervised machine-learning techniques.
During this training, we also covered emerging academic research wisdom on how to optimize the payoff from social media for a business. This training demonstrated how to prevent being blindsided by disruptive changes in the marketplace and guided efforts to sustain market leadership in the future.
