On January 23, 2020, WFA-CFAR cohosted a Higher Purpose Conference with the Bauer Leadership Center and Barry Wehmiller. At the time, WashU Olin professors Stuart Bunderson, the George & Carol Bauer Professor of Organizational Ethics & Governance and Director of the Bauer Leadership Center and WFA-CFAR Director Anjan Thakor, the John E. Simon Professor of Finance, were conducting a survey on personal and organizational higher purpose.

Bunderson and Thakor’s Personal and Organizational Higher Purpose survey findings (PDF), published in July 2020, were the topic of an article in the Harvard Business Review “Creating a Purpose-Driven Organization” by Thakor and Robert E. Quinn, a professor emeritus at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business and a cofounder of the Center for Positive Organizations. In May 2020, Quinn and Thakor were guests on the Everybody Matters Podcast: Higher Purpose Series.
