"The Executive MBA program prepared me to face multidisciplinary challenges strategically."
Why C-suite skills are critical
Lam has been a financial industry executive for two decades. He now manages the bank’s trade finance and supply chain finance business – from strategy to product development to sales to execution.
He believes “it’s important to refresh knowledge on various business disciplines and to build well-rounded management skills,” particularly as professionals become more senior in their organizations. "The Executive MBA program prepared me to face multidisciplinary challenges strategically," Lam says.
In addition, the program "improved my performance at work, especially my ability to analyze problems. A side benefit was better time management. The EMBA experience has enabled me to lead and to delegate responsibilities with greater confidence."
Expanding his leadership profile
"Before I enrolled in the program, I had a fair understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of my leadership skills. Highly effective executives have a flexible leadership profile, however, that adapts to different stakeholders and issues. Through program assessments and exercises, I not only was able to identify my default leadership style but also to test other styles in a safe environment."
What surprised him most about the program
Lam says he was surprised by how much he enjoyed the program. "I really did not want it to end. The work was definitely hard, but the expertise I gained and the friendships I developed made me look forward to every class."
