Creating value for his organization and industry
“Small biotech companies like Macrocure need professionals with medical, clinical, and patient-care knowledge – leaders who understand the end user. First and foremost, we’re in the health care industry to relieve pain and suffering and to do it in a safe manner.
“Physicians who enter the biotech field need to be prepared for cross-functional roles with a complete understanding of medical and safety issues and also revenue generation and sustainable growth. Combining my medical degree with an Executive MBA degree has enabled me to mesh these objectives, contribute to peoples’ health and well-being, and create financial value for my organization.”
Data-driven decision-making
Molyneaux recalls the Carter Racing case study he and his classmates discussed during GO! Week.
“Professor Bill Bottom presented a case where he asked us to look at the data and make a decision on whether or not we would race on a particular day given multiple variables. The vast majority of the class, including me, ignored what was now obvious and went with a gut feeling to race. When we later looked at the data and critically analyzed it, we realized the racer had no chance of success. That was a watershed moment for me. The data tells the story.”
Bottom went on to explain the case study was an allegory for the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion and talked through all the actions that could have prevented the disaster.
The discovery “set the bar and woke everybody up,” Molyneaux says. “From that point forward, we realized that the best decisions are made based on objective, data-driven information, and these decisions will most often lead to a predictable outcome. You may not always get the result you desire, but you’ll be able to consistently perform better and avoid potential disasters.”
