“The program made me a more authentic leader. It helped me define who I am as a person, what values I gravitate toward, what I want to do with my career, and how my team and I will address challenges going forward.”
Filling in her career gaps
Scott’s preprogram marketing background focused on “the softer side of the business. I wasn’t a numbers person,” she says.
“Honestly, I was pretty self-aware about my professional-development opportunities but not about their impact. EMBA core courses taught me how to speak the language of my company’s executives—in quantitative terms that address profit and loss, sales margins, and ROI.”
Expanding her leadership profile
“The program made me a more authentic leader. It helped me define who I am as a person, what values I gravitate toward, what I want to do with my career, and how my team and I will address challenges going forward.
“I came away from the program thinking there’s nothing I can’t accomplish. After all, I had just completed an intense life goal in a short period of time.”
Leveraging EMBA courses on innovation
“I learned that professionals need organizational slack to innovate,” Scott says. So she built 10 percent downtime into her creative team’s workday.
“It lit a fire under them. Team members were excited and immediately thought about how to better connect with customers, which made me proud. I certainly didn’t want to lead a group of order takers.”
Advice for other professionals who are considering the program
“What are you waiting for? Now’s the time to make an investment in yourself.”
