Shirley joined the Strategy and Entrepreneurship PhD program in 2018 after a fruitful career with a multinational oil and petrochemical company based in China, where she contributed to cross-border mergers and acquisitions, stakeholder management, country risk analysis, and strategic planning. Her last role was Deputy Director of Strategy and Business Development for International Oil and Gas. She negotiated deals with numerous companies and governments, such as those in Africa and the Middle East; conducted due diligence on various types of assets and companies, including those in US shale, Canadian oil sands, and deepwater Brazil; presided over divestitures that no longer fit corporate strategy. She was also involved in designing and improving organizational structures and talent development policies. Shirley has degrees in international politics, linguistics, MBA, and energy finance. She was a Chevening Scholar 2016/2017.
