Dean Mahendra Gupta
Dean Mahendra Gupta received his PhD. in accounting from Stanford University in 1990, his MS in industrial administration from Carnegie Mellon University in 1981, and his B.S.c (Honors) in statistics and economics from Bombay University in 1978.
Gupta was appointed dean of the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis in July 2005. He has served on the Olin faculty since 1990 and in 2004 was named the Geraldine J. and Robert L. Virgil Professor of Accounting and Management. Students have given him the Reid Teaching Award eight times since 2001. He was chosen the Marcile and James Reid Professor for 1996-1997.
Gupta’s research has been published in leading academic journals in the United States and abroad. He has served on several editorial boards, including those of The Accounting Review, The Journal of Management Accounting Research, Canadian Accounting Review, and Accounting Horizons. He is a frequent speaker at research workshops and conferences worldwide.
Gupta has been a consultant to various firms and government agencies. He serves on Brown Shoe Company's board of directors and its audit committee. He has served on the board and as chair of the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management. Gupta has also served on the Board of Dance St. Louis. He is currently on the board of Junior Achievement, the advisory committees for the Center of the Study of Ethics and Human Values, the Center for Health Policy, and the academic advisory board for the World Trade Center.
