Two healthcare startups by Olin EMBA alums are among five WashU-linked companies to each be awarded $75,000 Arch Grants:
- Mohamed A. Zayed, EMBA 2023, is director of the new Division of Surgical Sciences in the Department of Surgery at WashU Medicine. He is the cofounder of AirSeal Cardiovascular, a life sciences business that provides a simple blood test for an enzyme that can flag patients at risk for cardiovascular disease.
- Alyssa Huffman, EMBA 2021, is the founder and CEO of Allumin8, which offers innovative solutions for 3D-printed orthopedic and spine hardware. The company’s mission is to increase the survivorship of implants and reduce the likelihood of complications.
Over the past dozen years, the Arch Grants organization has awarded equity-free grants to more than 250 companies that demonstrate potential to drive economic impact and innovation in the St. Louis area. WashU’s entrepreneurial community made up a quarter of this year’s 20 recipients.
II Luscri, assistant vice provost for innovation and entrepreneurship and managing director of the Skandalaris Center for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Entrepreneurship, pointed to the awards as evidence of WashU’s support for student entrepreneurs and the St. Louis region.
We are always proud to see WashU ventures having an incredible impact on the St. Louis entrepreneurial ecosystem and vibrant community we have here.
