Vice President and General Manager Imaging, North America
"My EMBA education added to my credibility and helped me guide my team with greater skill."
"My EMBA education added to my credibility. It helped me understand and adapt to our new corporate direction and to guide my team with greater skill."
Leading change at her firm
In July 2013, Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals spun off from its parent company, Covidien. Haynes – who has more than 25 years of pharmacy experience in a wide range of areas – had been tasked to "lead through the transition."
She says the Executive MBA program made her more confident in her decision-making – critically important "during a period of major change. My EMBA education added to my credibility. It helped me understand and adapt to our new corporate direction and to guide my team with greater skill.
"During the program, I gained strategic foresight, which meant, among other things, that I learned to ask the right questions: Where does the company need to go? What culture are we trying to foster, and how do we align that culture with our overall vision and objectives? To deliver growth for a publically traded company, we need to make good business decisions."
Her most-favorite EMBA courses
"Microeconomics changed my thinking most. I loved game theory and decision trees and was able to apply what I learned to the company’s business and competitive scenarios. In addition, corporate finance brought a lot more clarity to my participation in investor and quarterly earnings calls."
Before the EMBA program, she didn’t comprehend the nuances of analysts’ queries. "Now, it’s like I can speak a different language."
Advice for professionals who are considering the program
"Choose the right program for the right reasons. Be prepared to contribute. And stay actively engaged."
