“The supply chain field is a continuous learning environment that changes–and is updated–constantly. WashU prepared me for both the analytical and the operational sides of the supply chain coin.”

Xian’s father used to do research at Washington University and is an alum. Attending the university was an opportunity for Xian “to follow in my dad’s footsteps. WashU is a highly accredited institution.”

Applying program teachings

Xian works for LLamasoft, a company that creates supply chain optimization software. “Course teachings allowed me to better understand the network, inventory, and transportation optimization tools that I work with on a daily basis. At my company, we are solving tough supply chain questions using advanced optimization modeling.”

What surprised him about the program

“The level of teaching in the program was incredible. I was impressed by the faculty members’ enthusiasm and by their ability to explain complex topics.”

How he stays involved with the university as an alum

“Every year since I’ve graduated, I’ve worked to solidify the connection between WashU and LLamasoft. For example, our company VP has been a guest speaker for the university’s supply chain-focused SMP and MBA students. I am working on making WashU a source of talented supply chain professionals for our company.”
