Learn business and communication skills over the summer

WashU Olin’s Gateway to Business Program is a pre-college course that offers high school students opportunities to learn about business and professional communications over the summer. You’ll earn academic credit while you gain an understanding of business fundamentals and enhance professional communication skills that will help prepare you for your college career and beyond.

Application is closed for Summer 2022.

Have all these materials ready before you begin your application:

  • Most recent high school transcript
  • Name and email of a teacher or guidance counselor willing to write a letter of recommendation
  • Current resume

About Gateway to Business

Gateway to Business is a hybrid business fundamentals program that’s designed to provide rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors with a general understanding of business and professional communications. Whether you’re considering studying business in college, or you’re already planning to major in a nonbusiness area like arts, sciences or engineering, this program will give you a fundamental introduction to business, leadership, teamwork skills and professional communications. You’ll also work on developing your personal brand and a personal statement for a college essay.

This summer course includes four virtual sessions followed by a one-week, in-person academic experience on the WashU campus. While on campus, you’ll engage with other high school students from across the country, learn from professors in a college classroom, experience a college campus while living in residence halls and explore St. Louis through company visits (Covid permitting) and other off-campus outings.

Program costs include tuition, housing, course materials and all meals. Transportation and incidentals are not included.

As a condition of employment, enrollment and/or access to Washington University and affiliated facilities, all University employees, students and trainees must be immunized by vaccination against COVID-19 unless granted a medical or religious exemption from the University.
